183-185 Clarence Street Sydney or Sub Station No.164, a new project from Built will revitalise two historic buildings into one of Sydney’s most innovative office towers.
The 7,867 square metre office tower will come with an elegant seven-level sculptural glass extension making a distinct statement on Sydney’s skyline and bringing the derelict former substation into the 21st century.
Plans for the site, which includes the former warehouse next to the substation – include a public exhibition space called Machine Hall to be used for a range of curated cultural and commercial events.
The 9-metre-high space at ground level which previously housed huge transformers will now become a premium venue used in partnership with City of Sydney Council.
When finished the project will have restored a disused piece of Sydney’s architectural heritage and given it a new lease of life.
John R Keith will be completing the Hydraulic component of the project.
